Portsmouth man dies in Lake Forest Court shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a shooting on Lake Forest Court in Portsmouth Thursday morning is now being considered a homicide.

Portsmouth Police say the victim was seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries at a hospital a short time later.


The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Eric Silver from Portsmouth.

Officials say they were notified for the shooting just after 1 a.m. in the 10 block of Lake Forest Court.

The man was found shot in the upper body and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. A silver car with multiple bullet holes was later towed away from the scene.

Neighbors are surprised something like this happened in their neighborhood.

“I got up and looked outside and it was the police and everything out there,” said Ray Crite, who lives down the street from where the shooting happened. “Very quiet, very quiet. We never have commotion like that.”‘

“We will be keeping an eye on our neighborhood, we will be doing that because we are a close-knit neighborhood,” resident Laura Wesp said.

Officers will be out in this neighborhood on Monday, Jan. 6 at 3:30 p.m. for a reset walk, according to a police spokesperson.
