Police investigating fatal shooting on Victory Blvd in Portsmouth

Portsmouth Police are investigating what they say is the suspicious death of a juvenile male.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth police said a man is dead after a shooting Thursday night near Victory Boulevard and Freedom Avenue.

Police responded to a local hospital around 7:30 p.m. for a report of a walk-in gunshot wound.


A man had a fatal gunshot wound, police said. He was identified as 25-year-old Rayquan Malik Gray.

The crime scene was located near Victory Boulevard and Freedom Avenue, near the Rivers casino site, Royal Farms and Valero gas station.

10 On Your Side went to the scene and saw officers placing at least 38 evidence markers in the area.

One witness told us he saw the shooting occur as he was walking out of Royal Farms.

He says he heard more than 30 pops in rapid succession and could see the gunfire coming from the suspect’s weapon. The witness threw open his car door and sped away. He says he heard more shots being fired in the distance.

No suspect information is available at this time.
