PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — State Police have identified the driver of a Kia Soul killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 264 at Greenwood Drive in Portsmouth.

The Office of the Medical Examiner had to use DNA to identify the victim, 32-year-old Britny Barker of Virginia Beach.

Virginia State Police were called at 1:47 a.m. on July 15 to investigate and found that the car had gone off the roadway, struck the tree line and burst into flames on westbound I-264.

Photos from the scene showed heavy damage to the car. The vehicle did not have valid DMV plates, state police said.
