PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — One man is dead after being shot on Maple Avenue in Portsmouth Monday evening, according to police.
Portsmouth Police said they got a call around 7:20 p.m. about a shooting in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue. When officers got to the scene, police said they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, and the man, later identified as Carlton Jermaine Sherrod Jr., was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Police said this is an open criminal investigation, and they did not have other details on the shooting at this time.
