ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — An Elizabeth City woman who killed her husband with her car last month is now charged with murder, police say.

Elizabeth City police say Tyisha Major was arrested on Monday after a Pasquotank County Grand Jury returned a true bill of indictment for murder last week.

The crash happened around 2:24 a.m. on February 8 in the area of White Street and Walston Avenue. Police said Tyisha Major was impaired at the time when she hit her husband, Jermaine Major, with her Acura sedan.

The victim was found underneath the car at the scene and was later pronounced dead.

Police originally called the crash an accident, and charged Tyisha Major with driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle.

Major was taken to the Albemarle District Jail and denied bond. Her next court date is scheduled for April 8 in Pasquotank County Superior Court.
