Police: 3 shootings in Hampton Roads reported in less than 3 hours

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Three shootings were reported by police in Hampton Roads in the space of about three hours late Thursday evening and early Friday morning.

The first was reported around 10 p.m. Thursday as a “gunshot wound incident” in the 600 block of Dunedin Road in Portsmouth, according to Portsmouth Police. On Friday, police said 41-year-old James Rockett III died as a result of a “injury consistent with a gunshot wound.”


Then, around 10:35 p.m., Norfolk Police reported a gunshot victim in the 9600 block of 1st Bay Street. The victim died at the scene. The victim is 33-year-old Ali K. Muhammad, the son of local community activist Bilal Muhammad.

The third shooting incident was reported around 12:30 a.m., with Portsmouth Police dispatch saying that officers were on the scene of a shooting in the 600 block of Jefferson Street. They said they were not able to advise as to the extent of any injuries.

No other details were immediately available on the three shooting incidents.
