NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Two unhoused Norfolk women with serious medical issues may soon have a place to call their own.

Belinda Deberry, 60, and Lestine Langston, 70, currently live with Carolyn Jackson, who opened her heart and home to the two women.

10 On Your Side first met the two women in June outside of the NRHA headquarters on main street while they were applying for public housing, leaving both women traumatized by the long lines and heat.

“Will I have to go out there and stand in the sun again,” Langston asked. “I don’t think I’m going to be able to take it.”

After watching their story, WAVY 10 viewers responded to Deberry and Langston’s pleas for assistance.

“This is a letter from Ms. Mosley,” Jackson said. “Somebody contacted her. It’s housing assistance.”

On Monday, Langston’s received a notification from NRHA for an interview for mid-rise housing for the elderly and persons with disabilities. Deberry also received a notification for an interview shortly a few days after Langston.

“Thank you for everything you do for them, cause everybody is talking about you,” Jackson said.
