NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A new music venue, the Annex, is opening in Norfolk on Thursday night after nearly a year of renovation and planning.

10 On Your Side first told you about the venue in January, when the city gave The Annex the green light, and again in August, when the venue was officially announced. Nestled at the end of an old warehouse just off Church Street and 26th, they aim to highlight local artists across all genres right in Norfolk.

Inside, a bar and dining area are on one half, with a newly built stage and floor space on the other.

The venue has a 460 person capacity. Strings of lights adorn the ceiling, with parking and patio seating outside behind the venue.

Some of the shows they already have on schedule include jam bands, an emo night, metal and punk shows and even old video game music shows. The bar and dining area will have regular hours throughout the week with music acts on schedule.

The Annex is a partnership with LAVA Presents and Young Veterans Brewing Company. Co-Owner Josh Coplon spent much of his life booking shows and said opening his first venue is a dream come true.

“It’s honestly pretty unreal,” Coplon said. “It’s been a dream for so long to have a venue. I booked my first show when I was 15. So watching it coming together for the last two and a half years, watching it be built over the last 11 months, it’s pretty unreal.”

Papadosio and Delirious George play Thursday at 7 p.m., marking the first show for the new venue.
