NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A shooting in a Norfolk apartment complex Tuesday night left multiple residents with damaged property.
According to the Norfolk Police Department, officers were called to the 7800 block of Dallas Street around 8:40 p.m. for a reported gunshot disturbance.
Once on scene, officers found multiple apartment units and cars that had been struck by bullets. There were no injuries, according to police.
10 On Your Side crews also saw bullet holes in porch doors, unit walls, car windows and even in the engine of a car.
“When we damage property, shooting guns, bullets don’t have no eyes,” said community activist Bilal Muhammad, whose son was shot and killed last year. “Once you pull the trigger, you can’t take it back. Once you pull that trigger, that bullet gonna go wherever you aim that gun for that bullet to go.”
Muhammad said he used to live in the area where this shooting took place. He said the news was painful to hear.
“It’s telling us that the community is still not respecting the needs of the environment for human family,” Muhammad said. “These are families where people are trying to get up, go to work in the morning, trying to raise children.”
