Possible traffic delays expected as Norfolk gears up for holiday season

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – As Norfolk gears up for the 2024 holiday season, the city wants residents to know about potential traffic delays the weekend of Nov. 23-24.

During the weekend, the Norfolk Harbor Races and the Grand Illumination Parade will return to the mermaid city, causing traffic delays on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 6-11 a.m. and 3-10 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 24 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.


The Norfolk Police Department will provide traffic support during the weekend, as several street closures are expected to impact the entrances and exits to downtown parking garages.

The posted no stopping/no parking signs throughout downtown will apply to the entire block — vehicles who do not follow the signage will be towed.

Those who arrive early will be able to take advantage of parking rate discounts. Prices for parking garages for the weekend can be found below:
