1 dead, another seriously hurt in shooting on Creamer Road in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 22-year-old man is dead and another is seriously injured after a shooting Sunday afternoon in Norfolk.

According to dispatch, the call for the shooting came in just before 4 p.m. in the 1000 block of Creamer Road, at Chesapeake Blvd. in the greater Ocean View area. Police say one man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified by police on Tuesday as Aaron W. Leach Jr., of Norfolk.

Another man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The father of Leach confirmed to 10 On Your Side the 22-year-old tragically died following the shooting Sunday. Leach Jr.’s family is devastated and heartbroken by the news. 

On Monday, a damaged car is left sitting on the road. Neighbors say after the shooting a car sped down the road and slammed into a parked car.

“I heard a big explosion and I come running around the side and I seen the car that hit the back for the car and seen the smoke coming out,” explains a neighbor. “I’ll remember that for the rest of my life.”

On Sunday afternoon, officers went in and out of a house on Creamer Road. Police placed evidence markers down the street.

Norfolk Police also rummaged through a wooded area and conducted interviews at the scene.

“This is an active investigation scene. The police are processing. They are speaking to people,” said Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi.

Fatehi told 10 On Your Side it is crucial for witnesses to talk with police.

‘The more information the police have, the more likely they are to make a quick arrest and put together a good, tight case,” he said. “Without help from the community. Without information, police can’t do their job and I can’t do my job.”

The Norfolk Forensic Unit was on the scene early in the evening. They were taking pictures of evidence markers in the road. The unit was also taking pictures of a truck in the street, and later in the evening, a Norfolk Gang Unit officer arrived.

A woman also came out of the house on Creamer Road and went with police.

10 On Your Side spoke with a neighbor. He said it’s a quiet neighborhood, but on Sunday he heard commotion and five to six gunshots.

Fatehi said he wants the violence to stop.

“People resorting to gunfire where they do not need to resort to gunfire. I am frustrated, but we are going to do the best that we can in my office when we get the cases to try them and to hold people accountable,” he said.

Suspect information in the case had yet to be released as of Tuesday.
