Norfolk’s Handsome Biscuit won’t be the ‘South’s Best Biscuit’

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A Norfolk biscuit restaurant was in the running for Garden & Gun’s “The South’s Best Biscuit” bracket, making it all the way to the final four before losing to Tudor’s Biscuit World in round 4.

Local favorites, like Norfolk’s Handsome Biscuit, competed against popular chains to see who really makes the best grab-and-go biscuit in the South.

The bracket consisted of 32 locations throughout the region, ranging from national chains, convenience stores, regional brands and local favorites. The final winner will be crowned on April 10.

The full schedule for the bracket can be found below:

  • First Round: March 20-24
  • Second Round: March 25-28
  • Third Round: March 29 – April 1
  • Final Four: April 2-5
  • Final: April 6-9
  • Winner Announced: April 10

“It’s not for basketball. It’s for biscuits. We’re excited and honored that we’ve been included in it. It’s a competition, Nationwide for the best Southern biscuit,” said John Porter, Handsome Biscuit Owner.

The Hella Fitzgerald is fried chicken thigh, bacon, and cheddar cheese, smothered in red eye pork sausage gravy — all layered in between a “secret recipe” biscuit.

“She’s really a star. It’s been one of our most popular sandwiches and we’re really excited to have it showcased,” said Porter.

Biscuit lovers will be able to vote for their favorites in each matchup once per hour. The link to vote can be found here.

Porter adds, if team Handsome Biscuit wins “it would be a crown like no other! There’s still a lot of stiff competition ahead. But I think we’re up to the challenge!”

The final two biscuits competing in the competition are Parker’s Kitchen’s sausage, egg and cheese biscuit and the Tudor’s Biscuit World’s Mountaineer.
