NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk woman’s loved ones are picking up the pieces after she was shot in the face earlier this month.

Norfolk Police say the shooting happened in the early hours of Jan. 7 in Ocean View.

Jaslynn Caldwell doesn’t remember much about that morning. Police told 10 On Your Side there was an argument outside an apartment building on West Ocean View Avenue before someone took out a gun and shot the 25-year-old in the face.

“She doesn’t really remember a lot of things,” said her friend, Tijuan Feimster. “She has a trach in her neck and a feeding tube in her stomach.”

For the last two weeks, Feimster has taken care of his friend.

“She has two kids, she’s pregnant [and] she needs a little bit of help,” Feimster said.

Police say the 25-year-old was shot around 2 a.m. after a fight in a parking lot in the 700 block of W. Ocean View Ave. Investigators have not named a suspect, and people in the neighborhood told 10 On Your Side officers went door-to-door asking for surveillance video of the incident.

“All I know is that there was an altercation going on and … she had got shot,” Feimster said.

Feimster told 10 On Your Side the bullet went through Caldwell’s temple and exited her jaw. She’s home recovering after spending two weeks in the hospital.

“She slowly but surely is trying to get better,” Feimster said.

One of Caldwell’s close friends started a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses and care for her 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son.

“Her son is a momma’s boy,” Feimster said. “I know he misses her to death.”

Feimster hopes police catch the person who shot Caldwell and promises to do what he can to support her.

“She needs all the help she can get,” Feimster said.

Caldwell’s two young children are currently staying with her grandmother while she heals. The shooting is under investigation.
