NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police said a barricade situation at E. Ingram Court in Norfolk early Tuesday was resolved peacefully and a man was taken into custody.
Police have identified the man taken into custody as 21-year-old Joseph E. A. Gustafson III.
He is charged with domestic assault and strangulation and is being held in Norfolk City Jail without bond, police said.
Norfolk police responded around 2 a.m. to the 600 block of E. Ingram Court. They attempted to make contact with an occupant in the house, but were unable.
They asked the public to avoid the area until further notice as authorities worked to resolve the situation. U.S. Navy police were also at the scene.
The Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team, Special Operations Team and bomb squad were also at the scene as of 6:40 a.m., but the situation resolved around 7 a.m.
Gustafson was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.
