NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The suspect accused of stabbing a man to death in Norfolk last November pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter during a hearing on Sept. 21, 2020.

Gregory E. McDonald is scheduled to be sentenced in December.

Virginia Beach Police assisted Norfolk Police with the arrest of McDonald.

Officers were called to the 3800 block of Bluestone Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 where they discovered the victim, 48-year-old Samuel L. Wiggins of Norfolk, lying in the road with stab wounds.

Jennifer West lives nearby and says the neighborhood is usually pretty quiet and calm.

“I walk to the store at night time and I’ve never had any issues or any problems,” said West.

But the crime scene tape surrounding her block Sunday morning might have changed everything for her.

“Yea that’s scary. I won’t be walking to the store anymore, especially by myself,” she said.

Jennifer said the time of day the stabbing occurred really threw her off.

“I mean that is kinda early for people to be up on a Sunday. I mean it’s not a workday why would somebody even be out at 6 o’clock on a Sunday? Unless they were jogging or doing something like that, but yea it was a weird time,” she said.

The family of Samuel Wiggins set up a GoFundMe account to help with burial costs.
