Nauticus receives $100,000 donation from Host to support renovation project

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Nauticus has received a $100,000 donation from T. Parker Host (Host) for its “Reimagine Nauticus” renovation project.

Host’s donation will fund an exhibit that highlights the significant role that coal has played in shaping Norfolk’s maritime economy. It will feature an interpretive panel and offer educator-led programs focusing on coal and provide visitors a comprehensive understanding of Norfolk’s economic development.

“Host is a proud champion of Nauticus, and we appreciate the immersive learning experiences they provide for younger generations,” said Host President and CEO Adam Anderson. “We are thrilled to contribute to an initiative that will both honor and educate visitors about this crucial part of our maritime economy.”

The “Reimagine Nauticus” campaign has already raised nearly 99% of its $21.5 million goal, through substantial donations from business and community leaders.

“We are deeply grateful to Host for their generosity and support,” said Nauticus President and CEO Stephen Kirkland. “Their donation not only advances our renovation efforts but also allows us to underscore the indispensable role of coal in Norfolk’s maritime history and economy — an often overlooked yet vital part of our story.”

The renovation project will introduce five large-scale, interactive exhibit galleries and is scheduled to open by the end of 2024.
