NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The number of WAVY viewers continues to grow who have recognized Amanda Deese, 49, after our initial coverage of her charges of conspiracy to commit murder two weeks ago.

Deese told us in a jailhouse interview that she has a remodeling business. According to customers, she has gone by the company names of The Handywoman and Second Chance.

First, a Chesapeake couple told 10 On Your Side Deese was the same woman who quoted their bathroom project. They paid her $6,500, but the work stopped shortly afterward, and they had to pay a second contractor to complete the job.

Now a Norfolk couple has reached out to us with a similar story — they paid Deese $7,500 for their bathroom job and it was never completed, either.

“It hurts. Mad. Frustrated,” said Deedee Wiggins, describing her emotions after what happened to the home she owns with fiancé Levin Johnson in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood. “It was a nightmare.”

They hired Deese to renovate their bathroom nearly two years ago.

“We have no bathroom,” Wiggins said. “I have no running water in my back bathroom. Prior to this, we had a whole bathroom.”

They hadn’t seen Deese since last year, until 10 On Your Side’s recent coverage, showing how she’s currently charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

“I was sitting here watching the news like I normally do, and I seen the case where it said murder for hire, and I seen Amanda Deese,” Wiggins said.

Johnson fought to maintain his composure after seeing Deese’s mugshot, knowing she had been in their home. “I had to exhale because of so much pent up frustration and disbelief.”

Johnson and Wiggins described problems similar to those of Rob and Kelly Rogers of Chesapeake. The Norfolk couple said Deese always had a story, always had an excuse.

“She was delivering materials,” Johnson said. “She had a blowout. She got electrocuted by a loose wire and flew 15, 20 feet off the ladder. She was in the hospital for two or three weeks and had slight brain damage.”

In fact, Deese had already extended their front porch without any major problems a couple years before.

But Wiggins and Johnson took Deese to court over the bathroom debacle. She didn’t show, and like the Rogerses, they got a judgment against her.

It’s money they may never see.

“People work hard for their money,” Johnson said.

Deese was in court this week after she had pled guilty to forging a $2,300 check two years ago. Her next date on the conspiracy to commit murder case is in April.
