NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Police say a man has died following a shooting early Wednesday morning on Alexander Street. It’s an unfortunate case of déjà vu for that area.

According to dispatchers, the shooting happened just before 1 a.m. in the 6200 block of Alexander Street, not far from Norview Avenue and Pall Mall Street in a residential area lined with houses, apartments and condominiums.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a male sustaining gunshot wound injuries. Police say the man, later identified as 55-year-old Martin P. Boney, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Alexander Street has been no stranger to violence.

10 On Your Side has been on the scene of many crimes there. We went back four years, to 2019, when police were dispatched to the same street for yet another shooting that left one person injured.

Two years later, a man told an officer his car had been stolen from a nearby gas station. After authorities followed the vehicle to Alexander Street, the suspects ran. Those suspects – two juveniles – were caught and arrested.

Last year, there were four separate shootings on that street. One of those shootings was fatal, leaving a 26-year-old dead and another person in the hospital.

And in April, police said 31-year-old Duwayne Brown was shot and killed in the neighborhood.

No further information has been released at this time. 10 On Your Side is working to learn more about the shooting.
