NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk police said a suspect in a double homicide on Hibie Street was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday morning.

Detectives charged Eugene E. Ward, 41, of Norfolk, with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of use of a firearm, Norfolk police said.

However, Ward was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 9:45 a.m. Friday in the 600 block of Campostella Road.

Ward was charged in connection with a domestic-related shooting Thursday in Norfolk. A man, Antonio D. Griffin, 38, of Norfolk, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the domestic-related shooting happened around 4 p.m. inside of a home in the 1500 block of Hibie Street. That is near East Indian River Road in the Campostella neighborhood.

A woman, Antoninette Griffin, 37, of Norfolk, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries following the shooting. She later died at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

10 On Your Side spoke with one woman who didn’t want to be on camera as she returned home from her second job. Her house was within the police perimeter and she was unable to go inside. She told us she was worried about her 11-year-old son who was home alone and was dropped off by his aunt minutes before the gunfire started. Luckily, she says, he didn’t hear the commotion two doors down.

Another mother, who lives across the street pointed out a shell casing that was inches from her parked car. She, too, in disbelief over the scene that took told of her usually peaceful neighborhood.
