NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The theme of the upcoming Cousinz Festival was alive and well in Norfolk Thursday afternoon.
Two of the local artists set to perform at the Cousinz Festival — Pusha T and Fam-Lay — teamed up with Dominion Energy to upgrade a woman’s home in order to make it more energy efficient.
Rappers Pusha T and Fam-Lay helped homeowner Gwendolyn Bailey with everything from a new electrical panel, new heat pump, new duct work, outlet replacement, weather-stripping and a modern thermostat. Bailey even got new gutters after her old ones were damaged by a tree recently.
“It was just important to partner with Dominion with the Cousinz festival to show the different avenues to how the community can connect together and work for one common cause,” Pusha T said.
“Things like this, hopefully it’s a ripple effect where people, once they see this, they’re inspired to do more things, pay it forward, exactly,” Fam-Lay said.
Bailey said she is grateful for all of the help to her home.
“I mean, it’s been a blessing,” Bailey said. “They came here to work, they didn’t leave no mess. They were so kind and they just made me feel special, and I’m just the queen of the neighborhood, that’s right, that’s right.”
The energy saving measures will save Bailey hundreds of dollars each year.
The Cousinz Festival is set for Aug. 31 at the Norfolk Scope Grounds. Tickets for the festival can be found here.
