NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A hearing for a father charged in connection with a shooting that left his 4-year-old child dead has been moved to June 6.
Rayvon Messer is charged with felony homicide and child abuse.
Police and paramedics were called to 19th Bay Street for a report of child shot in April 2017.
First responders found 4-year-old Rayvon Messer Jr. with life-threatening injuries. The boy died at the hospital.

Police arrested Messer Sr. the next morning and was charged with second-degree murder — but court records show the charge was changed to felony homicide.
Messer’s brother says the child found the father’s registered pistol beneath a pillow on the couch and the incident was a “complete accident.”
