NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Elizabeth River Trail (ERT) Foundation is set to debut the first ERT Olympics on Saturday.

The free, family-friendly event will feature multiple activities across Jeff Robertson Park, Plum Point Park and Water Street Open Space, and aims to promote community connection, health and wellness and environmental stewardship.

The opening ceremony for the inaugural ERT Olympics will take place at Jeff Robertson Park at 9 a.m., where people will be able to decorate a bib ahead of the activities. A star will be added to your bib for each activity you complete.

“We wanted to celebrate the unity of the Olympics in a real field-day style event for all ages and abilities,” ERT Foundation Executive Director Kindra Greene said. “We’re excited to show off the trail to people who may not have experienced all it has to offer. We’re hoping for some friendly competition and are particularly excited about our communities representing their neighborhoods or countries of origin through the bib decorating.”

The event schedule can be found below:

Jeff Robertson Park — From 9-11 a.m.

  • Opening ceremony – Torch bearers and National Anthem
  • Bib decorating – Represent your zip code, neighborhood or country of origin and pin it to your shirt to be an official participant
  • Spectator noise makers – Hosted by Keep Norfolk Beautiful
  • Hula hooping
  • Sack races
  • Walk/run/roll (ADA accessible)
  • Kids obstacle course
  • Sensory station (ADA accessible)
  • Soccer
  • Capoeira

Plum Point Park — From 9:30-11:30 a.m.

  • Frisbee golf
  • Norfolk boxing workshop
  • Kids obstacle course
  • Teen/Adult fitness course challenge
  • Jump rope
  • “Equestrian” course – Gallop around a course on giant stuffed horses
  • Archery
  • Yoga

Water Street Open Space — From 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

  • NSU volleyball team demonstrations
  • Vendors and food trucks
  • Music
  • Bike Norfolk – Track stand challenge
  • All abilities bike rides from Spinclusion
  • Closing ceremonies at noon
  • Olympic podium photo station

During the event, Lime will be stocking e-bikes and scooters for easier transportation between each park.
