Norfolk residents reeling after recent break-in

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — DeBree Avenue residents in Norfolk are reeling after a recent break-in on the street.

Paul Marik was on his way back to Norfolk after a relaxing vacation in Florida when his home on DeBree Avenue was broken into. The crime captured on his Ring Doorbell camera took place around 11:20 a.m. Due to traveling he missed the notification that showed a person kicking in his back door.

“I came home and drove up and saw the back door completely open and then I knew there was trouble,” Marik said.

There was a completely broken door and plenty of other damage.

“Went through my clothes, cabinets and my shelves and just trashed everything; it was an awful shock to me,” Marik said.

He said he now feels uneasy. Neighbors shared similar thoughts.

“This happened at 12 midday, it was really brazen,” Marik said.

Norfolk Police detectives are now asking for help from the public to identify this subject and bring Marik and his neighbors some relief.

“Catch this perpetrator,” Marik said. “It really was a mean thing to do.”
