VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man was sentenced to over life in prison on Feb. 28, after he was convicted for the first-degree murder of two cousins outside of Allure nightclub in Virginia Beach, officials said.
28-year-old Trayvon Anthony McCoy was sentenced to life in prison plus 43 years for first-degree murder, aggravated murder and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A jury found McCoy guilty back on Sept. 28, 2023, after he killed two cousins at the Allure nightclub.
The victims were William Moore and Joseph Moore. The two cousins left Allure around 11 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2021, and were talking to their brothers outside of the club. McCoy left the club shortly after them, and got a rifle from his car. When the victims were walking back to their own cars, McCoy called out to William, with the rifle by his side.
McCoy was confirmed by officials to have had a prior conflict with William.
After a brief conversation, McCoy shot William in the chest and then shot Joseph in the back as he ran away, officials said. McCoy fled and the two cousins died on the scene while bystanders tried to give aid.
McCoy claimed he acted in self-defense despite no weapons being seen on either victim, officials said.
McCoy has prior convictions for possession of schedule I/II controlled substance, possession of
a firearm while in possession of schedule I/II controlled substance, falsifying a firearm consent
form, petit larceny (2 counts), and disorderly conduct.
