Norfolk man charged with DUI after fatal crash on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 22-year-old Norfolk man was arrested after a crash Sunday that left a man dead and another person seriously injured, police say.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of Shore Drive near First Landing State Park.

Police say the driver of one of the vehicles, 48-year-old Benjamin Alvarado Jr. of Virginia Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger meanwhile was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, 22-year-old Samuel Randolph, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, first offense. On Wednesday, VBPD announced that Randolph was also charges with DUI Manslaughter and DUI Maiming.
