NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The groundbreaking ceremony for Norfolk’s casino is coming up later this month.
It’s set for Wednesday, October 30 at 11 a.m. at the casino’s future site next to Harbor Park at 200 Park Avenue. The ceremony will feature representatives from Boyd Gaming and the Pamunkey Indian Tribe, who are teaming up to build the casino, as well as Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander.
The development comes nearly four years after Norfolk voters chose via referendum to approve the casino.

Just last week, Norfolk City Council gave its final approval for the new design plans, which include a 200-room hotel, 1,500 slot machines, 50 table games, and eight bars and restaurants. A pool, spa and more are also in the works.
Alexander told WAVY he expects the full complex to be completed by 2027.
