NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police are trying to figure out what prompted a deadly Valentine’s Day shooting in Newport News, which eventually took the life of a 52-year-old man.

Thomas Crawley died nearly two weeks after the shooting, which took place on 28th Street near Roanoke Avenue just before midnight Feb. 14.

“I felt like everything had been drawn out of my body and I just could collapse at any moment,” said his sister, Antoinette Crawley-Gray.

“He was shot in the chest, his back, his spine, his face, his head – he had eight wounds,” she said. To shoot someone eight times? That’s overkill.”

Police arrested 37-year-old Marlyn Nieves-Collazo in connection with the incident.

She is currently facing multiple charges, which will be upgraded now that Crawley has died.

Crawley’s sister said she doesn’t know Nieves-Collazo, and she has no clue what her motive could have been.

“My brother never, never bothered anybody else,” she said. “He was a player, he was a lover, he was handsome.”
