Virginia Living Museum to open new Wild Care Center in late October

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Living Museum in Newport News is continuing construction on their new Wild Care Center, and 10 On Your Side got an exclusive look at the progress made so far.

Once finished, the expansion plans to give visitors of the museum a glimpse into veterinary medicine, animal care and nutrition. The new experience will give students the opportunity to understand exactly what it is these professions do.

“We connect people to nature,” Virginia Living Museum Executive Director Rebecca Kleinhample said. “Nature is science, and it’s around us and we are it every single day. We inhabit our ecosystems, our environment, our planet with many species and for all of us to understand, the interconnectedness is hugely relevant.”

Guests of the Wild Care Center will be able to see meals being prepared for the animals and will also have the opportunity to watch surgery at the veterinary clinic.

Kleinhample said they hope to have the Wild Care Center open in late October of 2024.
