Police: 2 Newport News men charged after pursuit involving 2 stolen vehicles; 1 rammed into police cruiser

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police say two men are charged after a May 14 pursuit involving two stolen vehicles, in which one of the vehicles rammed into a police cruiser.

Police say officers encountered a stolen truck in the north precinct around 5:15 p.m. on May 14. After running the license plate and discovering the vehicle was stolen, officers attempted to pull over the truck.

The truck driver didn’t comply, and police initiated a pursuit.

The chase led onto Interstate 64 and then to the exit ramp into Hampton.

Around that time, police say another vehicle, a gold-colored sedan, rammed into a police cruiser involved in the pursuit. Drew said it appeared that the two vehicles were working in tandem and the gold one was trying to stop the pursuit of the truck.

That vehicle crashed at Big Bethel Road in Hampton.

The chase continued until the original stolen truck crashed near the intersection of Mercury Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, Drew said.

Drew said he believed the incident lasted about 10 or 15 minutes, but didn’t have an exact time.

No injuries were reported, but two people in the truck, a male and a female, were taken into custody.

A man in the gold sedan was also taken into custody.

After further investigation, police said charged the man in the gold sedan, Dasani J. Brickhouse, with three counts of grand larceny, one count each of assault on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice and driving without a license.

Brickhouse lives in the 800 block of Lucas Creek Road and Delk lives in the 11400 block of Jefferson Avenue police say. Both were taken to the Newport News City Jail.

Police said the woman who was initially detained was ultimately not charged in connection with this incident.

The investigation is ongoing, police said. Virginia State Police and Hampton Police are also involved in the investigation.
