NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man has died after he was found with what police said was an apparent gunshot wound on River Road in Newport News Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as Jonathon Powell, 33.

Newport News Police said they did not have suspect information to release as it continues their homicide investigation.

Officers were sent to the Admiral Pointe Apartments in the 7300 block of River Road around 10:30 p.m., and when they arrived, they found a man suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, and Powell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives were canvassing the area and the police forensics team was at the scene, police said.
