NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man was shot and killed on Marshall Avenue in Newport News late Friday evening, police said.
Newport News Police said they do not have suspect information to release at this time.
Around 10:36 p.m., Newport News Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 3700 block of Marshall Avenue and, when officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 24-year-old Mahleik Barber, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said.
That area of Marshall Avenue is near 39th Street and Interstate 664, as well as the Seven Oaks Apartments across the railroad tracks.
Barber was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
