NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News police confirms that the two people found dead inside an apartment Saturday evening were both 15 years old.

Reports say that the bodies of the teens were found around 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, in the 100 block of Marshview Drive after officers responded to a shooting.

Medics pronounced the two, a male and a female, dead at the scene, police say.

Due to the sensitive details of the incident, Newport News Police say they are delaying release of any further information about the investigation.

Authorities found a gun inside the apartment and they believe the incident to be domestic related.

“You gotta watch the warning signs,” said neighbor Sandra Williams, who lives a few buildings over from where the shooting happened.

“I was surprised at the violence that went on and it’s too bad,” said Williams said.

Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew was out in the neighborhood for a Community Awareness Reconnection Education (C.A.R.E.) walk, which had more than 100 people.

“Faith leaders, pastors, school representatives, Dr. Parker, coucnilmen, our chaplin, the police department, human services and a lot of youth,” Drew said.

He says the two teens that died knew each other and were known by many in the community.

“My heart goes out to both families, two families lost loved ones.”

Drew says tonight they wanted to share a message to speak up against domestic violence, and there are resources in the city.

He also said more people were interviewed on Monday, and he’s waiting to learn more from the autopsies.
