Police: Man dies after being shot multiple times in Newport News parking lot

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man was fatally shot in a parking lot in Newport News Monday night.

Police identified the victim Tuesday as 33-year-old Melvon Kendell Ivey. They originally shared the wrong name for Ivey but sent a correction on Wednesday.


Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 11:10 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of a local business in the 9000 block of Jefferson Avenue. It’s right across the street from the Newport News Police Department’s headquarters.

Officers arrived to find Melvon, who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at 11:18 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
