New Redwood Smoke Shack in Suffolk opening in November

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One of the top Texas-style barbecue restaurants in the country is close to opening its newest location in Hampton Roads.

Redwood Smoke Shack is set to open its Suffolk location at the old Bennett’s Creek Farm Market this November, they announced in a funny social media video on Tuesday.

It’ll be Redwood’s third location. The original opened in 2019 in Norfolk, and the second opened a couple of years later near the Virginia Beach Municipal Center at 2476 Nimmo Parkway.

They say the renovation was an “emotional rollercoaster” with several setbacks, which included a truck going through the side of the building.

Redwood first announced that they had bought the building at 3881 Bridge Road back in March, months after the space’s beloved former tenants said goodbye after nearly 60 years.

The news also comes just a week after Redwood was named one of the best Texas-style barbecue joints in the country by Texas Monthly.

The magazine’s barbecue editor raved about the brisket slices that “glisten with melted fat,” “pleasantly plump”  jalapeño cheese links and thick spare ribs that “pull from the bone with minimal effort.”
