HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY)– A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday night in Hampton.

According to police, officers were called to the 600 block of Bell Street at 11:05 p.m. in reference to a shooting. While officers were arriving on scene, a man walked into Sentara Careplex with multiple gunshot wounds. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening though. He was transported to a different local hospital by members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue.

After investigating, it was revealed that the victim and another man were engaged in a verbal argument when the suspect shot towards the victim, striking him multiple times.

Hampton police arrested 23-year-old Mekhi Ivey in connection with the incident. He is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon, willful discharge of a firearm in a public place, reckless handling of a firearm and domestic assault and battery.
