YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A substitute teacher at Grafton Middle School was convicted of assault and battery of a 12-year-old special-needs student in York County.
Back in November 2023, Warren George Hyde, 54, of Yorktown was initially charged with three counts of assault and battery, one county of cruelty to a child and one count of maiming. However, all charges were nolle prossed except two assault and battery charges. He was convicted on one of them and was deferred on the other until Feb. 27, 2027.
If he has good behavior, the second assault and battery charge is expected to be dismissed.
Hyde was sentenced to one year in prison with everything suspended except 27 days in jail.
