NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Passengers will be treated to a live performance from Saxophonist K Russ while enjoying their ride on the Elizabeth River Ferry this weekend.

K Russ will entertain passengers with an acoustic rhythm and blues performance from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.

Sponsored by the Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC), the first 50 people to board the ferry ride from Portsmouth’s High Street dock to Waterside in Norfolk will receive a free day pass for unlimited rides on Hampton Roads Transit, which includes the ferry, Tide light rail and buses.

The ferry is using this special musical performance to promote two weekend events.

A one-day community celebration is happening in Portsmouth Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. The free High Street Festival spans four blocks, from Dinwiddie Street To Effingham Street, and features local vendors, artistic displays, a kids area, food and entertainment.

Across the river, in Norfolk, the RnB Block Party is scheduled from 6 p.m. until midnight at the Scope. Due to the forecast, the event has been moved inside instead of on the plaza. The 21 and older event will feature DJ DRAMA and guest DJs playing RnB music.

To get to the Norfolk Scope from Waterside, guests can walk or take the light rail from the MacArthur Station for one stop to Monticello Station. Free parking will be available at the EVMC/Fort Norfolk, Ballentine/Broad Creek, Military Highway and Newtown Road light rail stations in Norfolk.
