4 shot Tuesday night in Portsmouth; 18-year-old killed

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Four people were shot Tuesday night on Greenway Court in Portsmouth and one victim, an 18-year-old woman, has died.

In an update Wednesday afternoon, Portsmouth police said 18-year-old Ameerah M. Green died after being shot around 9:51 p.m. Tuesday on the 3700 block of Greenway Court, off Airline Blvd.

Green and two other victims, a man and a woman, were all found at the scene at Greenway Court. Those two other victims were also taken to the hospital.

Police said another man also walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound around 9:56 p.m. Tuesday. They later confirmed he was also shot at Greenway Court.

Charles Schesventer lives across the street and told 10 On Your Side he and his wife first noticed something was wrong when they heard a large argument outside.

“My wife got up and went toward our patio to go in the direction where we heard the argument,” Schesventer said. “By the time I stood up and followed her out — I was about halfway between the distance — rapid shots rang out about five to six of them, I believe. She fell to the floor. I fell on top of her. I, then, tried to crawl to get my cellphone really quick, crawled back over here, and I begin to call 911.”

But the chaos was far from over.

“And then another 8 shots rang out after a few seconds,” Schesventer said.

He went outside and was met with a shocking scene.

“I did walk up in front of my house looking in the direction, and I did see a person who was in the street, and I believe he was shot,” Schesventer said.

He said it almost didn’t feel real.

“Felt movie-ish, with the rain and the wind it really felt like a shock beyond something I normally experience,” Schesventer said.
