Child shot in Virginia Beach in critical condition

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A child is in critical condition after being found shot Tuesday night in Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach police said they responded to a call at 6:16 p.m. for a report of gunshots in the 3200 block of Peele Court, off Holland Road near Lynnhaven Parkway. They arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound. Police confirmed the child was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

No other information has been released, including a possible suspect.

WAVY’s KaMaria Braye was out at the scene Wednesday morning and spoke with neighbors who said the child involved is under 10 years old.

The home the child was in is riddled with bullets.

Video from the scene Tuesday night shows a large police response. VBPD was alerted to the shooting through the city’s gunshot detection system.

Neighbor Zack Desimas told WAVY he heard it all. “We heard the 20 shots. The whole nine. The cops coming, everything. Yeah, we saw there was, it looked like 10, 15 people inside; they all got escorted out – one kid on a stretcher.”

Police are asking anyone with information about this crime to come forward.
