JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that happened Monday morning.
According to officials, just after 4 a.m., officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on I-64 at Croaker Road.
The crash caused all westbound lanes on I-64 near Croaker Road to close while crews worked to clear the roads. All lanes have since reopened.
An investigation revealed that a sedan was traveling west on I-64 when it ran off the road near Exit 231, striking a utility pole, electrical box and a tree.
Police said there is one confirmed death as a result of the incident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
