Death of missing 18-year-old from Williamsburg ruled homicide

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The death of a missing 18-year-old from Williamsburg whose body was found in Isle of Wight has been ruled a homicide.

Deputies found the body of Aonesty Selby on January 13 on a dirt logging road in Isle of Wight just two days after her family in Williamsburg last heard from her. At the time, authorities already deemed her death as “suspicious.”

On Monday, the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk ruled her death as a homicide, stating that she died as a result of a single gunshot wound.

Aonesty had just turned 18 on January 10.

Over the weekend, 10 On Your Side spoke to one of Aonesty’s aunts, Ebony Selby. She remembers her niece as a sweet, kind, caring and loving person.

“You could tell she was so kind hearted cause she was so good with kids. And they would just flock to her and she would never put them down,” said Selby. “They would never get to walk or anything.”

Neighbors in Isle Of Wight County told us where Aonesty’s body was likely found. A sign posted there says security cameras are in use, but 10 On Your Side didn’t immediately see any.

10 On Your Side also spoke to Aonesty’s mom and other aunt Monday. The original missing person’s release from James City County Police listed two men who Aonesty could’ve last been seen with. Both her aunt and her mom didn’t recognize either name in the release.

Now, her family just wants answers.

“Justice is finding the person or people who did this,” said Ebony Selby. “I just want them to find them. Find them.”
