ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were killed Sunday evening after two vehicles crashed head-on in Isle of Wight County. 

Virginia State Police said they were notified of the crash on Route 10, near Wrenns Mill Road, around 5 p.m. The drivers of both vehicles involved were pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police said a preliminary investigation found 54-year-old Lewarren Edwin Burrell was driving  a Mazda SX pickup truck was going east on Route 10 when he veered into the westbound lanes. 

Burrell crashed head-on with a 2015 Toyota Prius being driven by 66-year-old Jackie Doby Cassidy.

State Police said Burrell was not wearing a seat belt, while Cassidy was wearing one.

The crash remains under investigation, state police said.
