Isle of Wight deputy was on job at time of DWI arrest, sheriff’s office says

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — An Isle of Wight County sheriff’s deputy arrested for driving while intoxicated was on duty at the time, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office announced Monday afternoon that 29-year-old Preston Saul, of Gates, North Carolina, was arrested on Monday, July 16 at 3:40 a.m. “while acting in his capacity as an Isle of Wight County Deputy.”


He was charged with driving while intoxicated: first offense, and originally placed on administrative leave. He’s since been fired.

Sheriff James Clark, Jr. said after the incident that his office “will continue to hold the men and women of the Sheriff’s office to the high standards our citizens deserve.”
