HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Sen. Mark Warner will be in Hampton Roads Friday to host a roundtable discussion on the rise of gun violence.
The senator will be joined by U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, first responders , local elected officials and activist.
Warner is expected to address and condemn political violence in the wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. He will hear directly from the Hampton Roads law enforcement community about their work across the region, which has seen 76 homicides this year.
During the roundtable, Warner will discuss his efforts to curb gun violence at the federal level. These efforts include the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and incentivized red flag laws in states across the country.
The event takes place Friday, July 19 at noon at the Mary Jackson Neighborhood Center, 231 Lincoln St. in Hampton.
