Hampton Police have classified the shooting as a maiming and said that, at around 10:31 p.m., officers responded to a call for a shooting in the first block of Harlow Court. When officers got to the scene, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue classified the victim’s injuries as life-threatening, and the man was taken to a local hospital.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the man was outside the front of a residence when a vehicle approached and shots coming from inside the vehicle were directed at him, and struck him, police said.

“I though, ‘Oh, maybe someone’s just messing around,” said a woman who heard the gunshots and did not want to be identified. “That was my first thought. When I poked my head back out the window, that’s when I heard the kind of distress that somebody was in, because I could hear the screaming, I could hear the crying, that’s when I knew something just happened.”

The Hampton Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting.
