Man arrested after shooting leaves 18-year-old dead on Triple Crown Court in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a man was arrested following a homicide investigation in Hampton Wednesday afternoon.

According to Hampton Police, the call for the incident came in just after 5 p.m. in the first block of Triple Crown Court.

An 18-year-old man identified as Hampton resident Niguel Amar Russell, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said initial investigation reveals Russell was walking down the street when he was shot by a passing vehicle.

Police said one man was detained for questioning in connection with the incident. On Thursday, police said Hampton resident, Ramel Lawson Jr., was charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of shooting from a vehicle and one count of shooting in public.

Investigators are not looking for any additional suspects, they said.

The motive and circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation and Lawson is in custody at Hampton City Jail.
