Hampton coffee shop vandalized one day before grand opening

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton coffee shop was planning for their grand opening but are now dealing with an act of vandalism after a door on their property was busted out.

Luckily, that glass door was not a part of Buckroe Coffee Co., which opens to the public Tuesday, but instead on one of their nearby properties that they plan to have open soon. Damages are estimated at $2,000.

Owner David Spring said you can see a couple of children throw something at the door before running off. Spring says he just wants those involved to own up to it, and use it as a life lesson.

“It hurts people and I’m a small business,” Spring said. “I don’t have shareholders money like Starbucks. I’m using my life savings. The money that pays to fix this is money I have to go out and earn. Tomorrow, we’re going to celebrate community, and the aftermath of this storm there will be a rainbow.”

The grand opening event is still taking place and will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday on East Pembroke Avenue.
