HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a 29-year-old man was pronounced dead following a shooting Sunday morning in Hampton — the second person to die by gunfire in that complex in less than 12 hours.

The second homicide occurred in the 2100 block of Newton Road in part of the Avalon town home complex. The call for the incident came just before 8:30 a.m.

The victim, a man who is still unidentified, was pronounced dead as a result of gunshot injuries.

This is the same complex where police found a 39-year-old man dead following a separate shooting incident Saturday night.

Jacadi Novoa Vazquez was loading up her car this afternoon to move out when she heard the news about what happened.

She said she was moving because of a drive-by shooting that happened by her home in December.

“It scared us. There have been shootings here in the past, but this was just too close to home for us to be comfortable with it,” she said.

Many people in her neighborhood question if the two incidents are related.

Hampton Police Seargent R.C. Williams said: “While the incidents were in close proximity with regard to time and location, we are unable to confirm whether they are related at this time. Investigators are considering all possible circumstances.”

Vazquez said that hearing what has happened in the last 12 hours made her feel like she was making the right decision.

“It’s a good idea to move, and I just pray for the families that have lost their loved ones. I hope that things turn out better for them because they are going to need it.”

There is no further information at this time.
