Hampton officers respond after shots fired at NNPD detectives

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Hampton Police are investigating an incident in which a person fired shots at two Newport News police detectives, who then returned fire.

The investigation revealed the Newport News detectives were in an unmarked police unit following a wanted subject Monday night. They continued into Hampton. The detectives returned fire and the suspect vehicle took off.

Neighbors told 10 On Your Side they heard at least five gunshots, one after the other.

The police unit was struck multiple times, according to a news release from Hampton Police, but the officers were not injured. Hampton officers responded to Patrick Street around 10:20 p.m. in response to a shots fired call.
