HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man wanted by Hampton police on multiple charges, including rape and abduction, in connection to a domestic incident last week was arrested in South Carolina.

Hampton police say 25-year-old Tyrone Lamond Harris was taken into custody without incident in Columbia, South Carolina, by local U.S. Marshals. He’s been charged with abduction, rape, strangulation, grand larceny, hit-and-run and malicious wounding in connection to the Sept. 25 incident on Butler Farm Road in Hampton.

Police said 26-year-old Dominique Alesi was the victim, and family confirmed Harris was her ex-boyfriend.

Her mother, Christine Pool, said the arrest is a relief.

“Very relieved, thankful, happy, you know because my daughter now has a little ease not having to look over her shoulder,” Pool said.

Pool said it’s been a long and nerve-wracking week, but she told 10 On Your Side her daughter is doing better following the violent encounter.

“Physically, her body’s getting better. The bruises are going away and she’s looking like her old self again. Mentally she has a very long road ahead of her, but she’s taking it day by day,” Pool said.

Pool said both families are trying to move forward.

With October being National Domestic Violence Awareness month, Pool hopes her daughter’s ordeal will be a wake up call for anyone needing help.

“When you see somebody doing that you just need to go ahead and get out of that situation because it can get worse,” she said.

Harris, of Newport News, is being held in South Carolina ahead of extradition to Hampton Roads.
